More on Brasília

I am willing to write this post in English to honour my good friend Rumiko, based on her comment to the previous post and to the topic of this one.

This was a more relaxing week in my hometown. On wednesday, I met up my friend Inae in "Água Mineral". That is a natural park inside the city, aiming to preserve parts of the "cerrado", our natural forest in this area. This park is crowded everyday as for the 2 big and natural swimming pools they have. You also have the choice to make small trails and be trapped by some of the monkeys! It was sooo good an relaxing! I love the sun!

Time passed quickly and our friend Luciana met with us later for s smooth afternoon. We went to a cultural center to catch up an exposition celebrating the 100 years of the Japanese immigration to Brazil. It was so beautiful and interesting! First we saw the part called "Japan today" with pictures from Harajuku, Tokyo, which brought good memories. Then we saw paintings of Brazilian artists with Japanese origin, or Japanese artists who moved to Brazil. I like mainly Tomie Ohtake. She was born in Kyoto (no more words!!!) and moved to Brazil in 1936, between the two great wars. We had fun with wonderful dresses made from paper which took part in the São Paulo Fashion Week.

The last part was more like a Japanese museum of Japanese culture. We saw artcrafts from Samurais and kimonos, pottery, etc. I was very emotional on the Shodo part (Japanese caligraphy paintings) and explained in details to Luciana and Inae the technique, which also surprised me! There was also origami, ikebana, tea ceremony. I will upload now some pictures which also illustrate how we amused ourselves!

Juana, どうもありがとう!
It was very interesting to read that. I look up to those who went to migrate from Japan to Brazil 100years ago which is so far away from home. As I have migrated to Australia, I know exactly how hard it is to do that. It must have been even more difficult for them at the time when nobody had really gone abroad and had no idea what it was going to be like living in another country.
By the way, just letting you know that I have got an oppotunity to sell my paintings at a small gallery here. (Do you remember that I like painting?) I am now painting Marilyn Monroe which will be out in the gallery in November.
I am so happy! I have never expected to become an artist!(But only if somebody buys the painting though...)
