I am back to Brazil for 3 weeks now. I have been a while in Brasilia and a while in Rio, the most beautiful city in the world.
It is soooooooo good to walk around and be just another one in the crowd, not different from anyone else, just a simple self. And have the true feeling that you are really not so different from everyone else around you. That you have similar culture, principles... it is good.
I like the relaxed atmosphere, the smile in most of people´s face, the beauty of the sky and architecture, the politeness... that is indeed what I feel different and what makes me feel comfortable around, and I am not comparing only to Africa, but to Europe as well. Ask directions in Belgium and in Rio and see the difference. Maybe it is just because I am one of them, but people are amazingly nice here.
I love being here and I am very proud of my origin country.
I think most of the time things work here. When we can get away from bureaucracy, true.
Today I visited the museum of contemporary art from Niteroi. I don´t have words for it, just a complete perfection, a work of a visionary and a genius. And I went by boat. 15 minutes. 6 km. Great boat. It takes me back to Cape Verde and all the problems they have to institutionalize a maritime transportation system. But that is another story.

I totally agree with you.
While i was in Rio, people were incredibly friendly to me as well, even though I am not a Brazilian.
I even met a girl who worked at a shop (cafe?) on a ferry smiled at me and said "where are you from?", I said 'Japan'. She told me she first thought I was a Brazilian but then she thought that I dressed differently from Brazilian girls.
My friend's friends were also speaking in English all the time and included me in their conversations while I was there.
Those wonderful memories of Brazil are unforgettable and you are so special for me. That's why I like the country and Brazilians.
